Timed Tetrad Visits
You record all the birds you see and hear in a 2km x 2km square.
Make two visits for an hour or more in the winter and two in the breeding season.
Roving Records
You record any bird, anytime, anywhere.
You then enter this information on the BTO web site and it gets incorporated into the Atlas database.
There are two primary ways in which you can help
BirdTrack
BirdTrack is an online bird recording system that lets you record lists of birds that you see on your walks. See how easy it is by going to the web site.
Ringing
Bird ringers record the activity of the birds they catch. Any activity indicative of breeding (such as the presence of a brood patch) is incorporated into the Atlas.
The Nest Record Scheme
The NRS gathers vital information on the breeding success of Britain's birds by finding and following the progress of individual nests. Nest records are automatically integrated into the Atlas.
There are also three other ways of helping
Go to the BTO web site for further information on how to sign up for your tetrads, or contact us to find out which tetrads need surveying. Or go to the ToDo page.
