The present Atlas of Breeding Birds of Devon was published in 1988. The new one will contain details of summer and winter numbers as well as the breeding distributions; we hope to publish it in 2015
The survey work for this new Atlas of Devon Birds is already underway running in parallel with the national atlas being run by the BTO and aiming to survey all of the tetrads in Devon at least four times!
Our survey will last until 2013 and we will continue to use the BTO website for data
entry until then. The great advantage of working with the BTO is that we have access
to all the records from many different sources. This is a huge task and we have great
volunteers but Devon is a very large county -
Each 10 kilometre square is divided into 25 Tetrads, each identified by a letter
We need more tetrad surveyors but we also need all your records, especially breeding records. Just one record is all it takes to confirm breeding for instance. This can be entered as a roving record.
It has been 23 years since the last Bird Atlas was produced for Devon. Much has changed in that time and we hope to find out just what those changes are.
Can you help by surveying a tetrad? See which are available. Not sure what to do? Contact us or go to the BTO Atlas web site.
What is a Tetrad?
A Tetrad is a 2 by 2 kilometre square
